Staining your favourite item of clothing makes you panic as you wonder what to do about it. Before you grab a sponge and make things worse, it might be a good idea to get some advice on how to tackle the toughest stains.
How To Remove Unsightly Stains from Clothes
Here are some practical tips to help you get rid of some stubborn stains.
Pinot noir is not so nice when you spilled it on your dress. Where possible, rinse the stain with water immediately and pat it with a white cloth to soak up as much wine as possible. Make a paste out of stain remover and water then apply it and let it soak for an hour. Rinse and repeat if the stain is still showing then wash the item as per the label.
Pre-treat with a stain remover, or a paste of biological powder, then wash as normal. Check it’s completely removed before you dry it or you might set the stain.
Hairspray works wonders when it comes to lipstick stains. Spray it directly onto the mark and leave it for about 15 minutes. Then dip a cloth in warm water and dab at the blemish. Once it’s been removed wash the item as usual.
Tea and coffee
Rinse with cold water and pour on a bit of liquid detergent – dabbing at it lightly. Allow it to soak for 30 minutes before rinsing and washing.
Baby sick is actually easy to remove. Simply treat it with an oxygen based stain remover and soak for an hour or more. Rinse and wash as per the label.
Mix powder detergent with warm water into a paste and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for 15 minutes before putting the clothing through a wash cycle.
Tomato stains are notoriously difficult to get rid off. First, scrape away any excess sauce then put the stain in a bowl of cold water. Blot at the stain from underneath with some liquid detergent on a cloth before putting in the machine for a normal wash.
