Here are some unusual items that you can wash in the dishwasher. Some of them may surprise you!
UNUSUAL ITEMS YOU CAN WASH IN THE DISHWASHER
CLEANING CLOTHS, SPONGES AND DUSTERS
These items are used for some dirty tasks, and running them through a washing machine may be your first thought. But you can also give these items a clean and sanitise by popping them in the dishwasher.
WELLIES, SANDALS AND FLIP FLOPS
Assuming there are no leather straps on them, popping rubber or plastic footwear in the dishwasher can give them a really thorough clean. Do not forget to give the inside of your wellies plenty of time to dry before you wear them again!
CHILDREN’S TOYS
Children have a strong tendency to put things into their mouths, and so it is important that their toys are clean. Some plastic toys can be put into the top part of the dishwasher to get clean and sanitised, but make sure that they are suitable for washing at high temperatures.
FRIDGE AND FREEZER SHELVES
You can easily give the shelves and drawers from your fridge and freezer a good clean in the dishwasher – unless they are made of glass.
VEGETABLES
If you want to avoid scrubbing your dirty potatoes in the sink, pop them into the top of your dishwasher and run the rinse cycle. You can also wash tough fruit and veg such as carrots, celery and apples.
SPORTS CLOTHES
Shin pads, knee pads, teeth and gum guards… all of this sports paraphernalia can be cleaned up in the dishwasher. We suggest leaving them to air dry afterwards.
PET ITEMS
While your furry friends probably do not really care how grubby their bowls and toys get, you might well do so! Many can be popped into the dishwasher for a clean.
VENT AND GRILLE COVERS
Vent and grille covers get grubby. This is especially true if you have extractor fans. Cleaning them can be tricky and time-consuming. If you can get them off, they can be run through the dishwasher.
