How to remove unsightly stains from your clothes

Here are some tips to deal with some of the most stubborn stains.

1. Red Wine

Immediately rinse the stain with water. Pat with a white cloth, trying to soak up as much wine as possible. Make a paste out of stain remover and water – apply and leave it to soak for an hour. Rinse and repeat, then wash the item as normal.

2. Grass

Pre-treat with a stain remover, or a paste of biological powder and water, then wash as normal. Make sure it’s completely gone before drying or you might set the stain.

3. Lipstick

Hairspray works well on lipstick stains. Spray it on the mark and leave for 15 minutes. Then dip a clean cloth in some warm water and dab at the stain. Then wash as usual.

4. Tea or coffee

Rinse the stain with some cold water then pour on some liquid detergent – dabbing it lightly. Allow it to soak for 30 minutes then rinse and wash.

5. Baby sick

Treat with an oxygen-based stain remover and soak for an hour. Rinse and wash.

6. Chocolate

Mix powder detergent with warm water to make a paste and apply it to the stain. Leave for 15 minutes then wash.

7. Tomato

Scrape off any excess sauce and rinse under cold water. Blot the stain from beneath with liquid detergent then wash.

8. Avocado

Rinse with cold water and pre-treat with a liquid dish soap before soaking for 15 minutes. Rinse it thoroughly and then wash on the highest temperature that the item can take.

9. Ink

Apply either aerosol hairspray or antibacterial hand wash to the ink and then wash the garment at the usual temperature - while the stain is wet.

10. Mud

Leave to dry then shake off as much dried mud as you can. Blot liquid detergent into the stain. Continue blotting until you can no longer see any mud - then wash.
