Energy bills are set to increase this winter, and many of us are concerned about how to reduce energy use.
Five Ways to Reduce your Winter Energy Bills
Here are some small changes that might reduce your bills a bit.
1. Dishwashers use less water than washing by hand
Many people worry that their dishwasher uses too much electricity and a large volume of water, but the truth is different: A dishwasher uses less water than hand washing.
The eco cycle on your dishwasher is a must-use. While many reach for the quick cycle, (thinking faster = less energy) heating water quickly uses a lot of energy. Running a longer eco cycle uses less energy, reducing the cost.
2. Turn off devices at the wall
If you have phone chargers, games consoles, appliances or your TV plugged in, switching off at the plug can save you money.
3. Switch to LED light bulbs
If your light fittings have multiple bulbs, spotlights, and lights that are left on for a long period of time, switching to LED bulbs will reduce the electricity you use in a simple step. LEDs use 90% less energy and last longer than traditional bulbs.
4. Run your appliances after 10pm
Check your energy tariff: some have cheaper rates at night. if you’re on such a tariff you could save by waiting to run the washing machine and dishwasher overnight.
5. Use a heat pump dryer
In the winter we use our dryers less, but choosing a condenser is a great option to reduce bills. Condenser dryers take longer to dry clothes, but their heat pump technology means they are more energy efficient.
