If your puddings aren’t rising and Sunday dinner is around the corner, it could be that your oven is ready for replacement.
Signs Your Oven Is On Its Way Out
if recipes are not coming out the way you expected it could be time for a new oven. Here are some of the warning signs your oven might be on its way out.
1. Your recipes don’t come out right
Over time, components of your oven will wear-out causing fluctuations in temperature that can affect your cooking.
This could be because:
- The oven cannot regulate its temperature
- Heat is escaping out of the oven – check the door seals for wear and tear
2. Your gas oven isn’t lighting
Gas ovens can be especially hazardous when they wear out. Carbon monoxide poisoning is a real risk if problems aren’t fixed immediately.
If your oven isn’t lighting, you might have a problem with the pilot light:
- Broken switch
- Yellowy orange flame due to a lack of oxygen
- Needing to relight the pilot light if it keeps going out
If you have any of these problems, you need to get a professional look at your oven.
3. Your electric oven isn’t heating up
Electric ovens can also have problems. If yours sometimes fails to heat up, the heating element could be broken. It is worth having it checked by a professional.
4. Worktops are scorching when you’re cooking
Scorch marks on the worktops could be due to a lack of space between the oven and the cupboards or the seals on the oven may have worn out.
5. Your oven is uncleanable
A dirty oven is a trap for grease and food spills, which can leave horrible smells, and cause smoke to spew out when you open the door.
