We all sweat, but no one likes to slip on their favourite shirt only to discover underarm stains. Antiperspirant also has a part to play in the build-up of stains. How do you deal with them?
Sweat Stain Removal
Here are some tips to help to save your perspiration-soaked clothes from the bin,
How to Remove Sweat Stains: Colours
Start by checking the care tag on the clothing. Dry-clean only items should be dealt with by the professionals. If it's okay to tackle the stain at home, sponge the area with some white vinegar, which works well on white salt lines or stiff fabric. Then pre-treat the stain with an enzyme prewash stain remover or use a biological detergent. Work it well into the stain. Wash the garment straight away at the hottest temperature that is safe for the fabric (again, this will be on the care label).
After the wash cycle, air dry the clothing thoroughly to make sure the marks have gone. Using a dryer before the stain is completely gone can make it set.
For even more stain-fighting power, you can soak the clothes in a detergent and water solution:
- * Fill a small bowl with about a gallon of warm water.
- * Add 2 or 3 Tbsp of liquid detergent.
- * Mix them together.
- * Let the clothing soak for 30 minutes to an hour.
- * Then wash as normal
How to Remove Sweat Stains: Whites
You can follow a similar method to get white shirts clean. Sponge the sweat stains with the white vinegar before pre-treating with a prewash stain remover. Then wash the clothes on the hottest cycle that is safe for the fabric, adding a Bleach agent for those especially stubborn marks. Soaking the clothes in the same detergent and water solution as above before washing can also help to treat yellowing areas. Air dry them until you're sure the stains are gone, as the heat of a dryer makes pit stains permanent.
