Manufacturers make machines to last; that’s why so many of them offer guarantees of up to five years. However, with a little effort, you can prolong the lifespan of your floorcare appliance even more.
How to Clean your Floorcare Appliances
If left uncleaned your vacuum cleaner could be harbouring a variety of bacteria, and the effect of any dust and mould inside can badly affect people with allergies. The following steps will get your vacuum cleaner sanitised and ready for cleaning again in no time!
After every use:
* Clean the brushes and bristles: Check for loose debris and remove it. If hair, string or anything else is tangled around the brush, don’t pull it off, but cut it carefully with scissors. Finally, spray with a disinfectant cleaner.
* Empty the vacuum canister: Do not keep a container filled with dirt and bacteria in your cupboard!
Once a month:
* Clean the filter: Refer to the manufacturer's guidelines if needed, locate the filter and carefully remove it. Run it under a running tap and then leave to dry out fully before replacing it.
Every 12 to 18 months:
* Do a big clean: Think of this as a car service but for your vacuum cleaner! Refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines to take apart the vacuum and clean it using hot water and a bowl of washing up liquid. Ensure that each part is fully dry afterwards. You can use a can of compressed air to reach the nooks or crannies and blast out debris before putting the machine back together.
The older your vacuum, the more pollutants it emits, so experts advise that you replace your vacuum cleaner at least every 10 years to make sure it I efficient and safe.
