Vinegar is a harmless but versatile substance. It has thousands of uses around the house. Here’s why it can help with laundry!
Why Vinegar Can Help With Laundry
Vinegar can deal with perspiration or deodorant stains: Spray vinegar onto the affected areas before adding the clothes to the washing machine.
It can also deal with many other tricky stains: dab vinegar on mustard stains before a wash, and pre-treat tomato stains with a mixture of half vinegar and half water.
Vinegar can remove the smell of smoke: fill the bath with very hot water, add a cup of vinegar, and the garments above the steaming water with the door closed for an hour or so.
You can fluff up blankets by adding a cup of vinegar to the last rinse of washes of wool or cotton blankets.
When you store bedsheets or tablecloths, they can pick up a strange smell and start to go yellow– but you can often reverse this by adding vinegar to the rinse cycle.
NOTES:
- Never use vinegar on rayon, acetate or silk.
- Always test your vinegar-based stain remover on an inconspicuous part of the clothing first.
- Distilled white vinegar is the best option for using in the washing machine.
- Try these tips at your own risk, if you damage your washing machine or clothes it’s your responsibility so check with the manufacturer first to make sure it won't damage anything.
