Are you aware of the amount of energy your domestic appliances are using? See how much you could save by improving energy efficiency.
Save Money On Your Domestic Appliances This Winter
Energy costs rise in the winter. You can’t really avoid spending more on heating and lighting, but you can save money by using your appliances more sensibly. In the UK, we spend about £3.4 million per year on washing and drying clothes, cleaning dishes and chilling or freezing food. Since 2004 the average energy bill for each household has gone up by 88%.
Fridge Freezer
Do not store things on top of your fridge freezer and keep the fridge at 3-5° and the freezer at -18°. Keep the fridge and freezer full.
Dishwasher
Use the eco programme, and only wash a full load of dishes. It’s better to choose a dishwasher that is the right size for your needs than to run one half-empty or wash multiple loads.
Tumble Dryer
Always dry a full load of similar fabrics together. If you have sensor drying don’t use timed cycles, and if you don’t stop the cycle when the clothes are dry – not when they are hot.
Washing Machine
Modern detergents work as well at 30° as at 40° so turn the temperature down a notch. Always was a full load and make sure the drum size is appropriate for your family to reduce the number of washes.
