You can now by modern ovens with a whole range of features to make them easier to clean. Catalytic oven liners make it simple to wipe away grime and dirt instead of scrubbing. Some of the latest ovens even clean themselves with a pyrolytic function. If you don’t have one of these new-fangled appliances, there is a simple solution to cleaning the interior when it is caked in oil, soot or grease: and that’s baking soda!
How To Clean Your Oven With Baking Soda
You do not need a lot of elbow grease to clean your oven – all you need is baking soda and water. Simply sprinkle some baking soda onto the door and the bottom of the oven. To clean the sides, mix the powder with water into a thick paste and apply it liberally. Leave it overnight for the best results, then in the morning simply wipe it away with a damp cloth.
The benefit of using this method rather than cleaning chemicals is that baking powder is natural and completely safe. It is mildly abrasive and doesn’t smell – so there are no fumes the next time you turn your oven on after cleaning. White vinegar can be sprayed in the oven interior to remove the traces of baking soda, although that will leave an odour that may linger for a bit.
