Most Common Broken Appliances

We all rely on our home appliances to make our lives easier. That is why is it so inconvenient when one of your domestic appliances breaks down. Here are the some of the most common broken appliances around the home, and how you can deal with them.

What to Do with Broken Appliances

When you are faced with a broken washing machine, dryer or dishwasher, then you may first think about replacing it with a new one. However, it’s almost always best to first pursue domestic appliance repair before thinking about buying a replacement. Have a repair technician from S&D Ireland diagnose the problem for you and quote a repair price if it’s not covered by our fixed price repair service.

Then, you can weigh up your options, factoring in both the purchase price and installation costs as well as the cost of safely disposing of your broken appliance. Depending on how old your equipment is and the extent of the damage to it, it may well be more cost-effective to repair the old machine rather than replace it.

Broken Washing Machine

To reduce the risk of breakdowns, make sure that your washer has been installed correctly. Always check your pockets before putting clothes in the machine so you don’t accidentally wash something like coins or hair grips that could damage the delicate electronics beneath the drum or get sucked into the filter. Finally, never overload the washer, and always use the recommended amount of detergent and softener.

Broken Dryer

Dryers can overheat, so to improve airflow, clean the lint filter after each load and ask a professional to service it and clear the vent annually. If you can access the moisture sensor you can clean it with rubbing alcohol to keep your dryer running efficiently.

Broken Dishwasher

As with all other major appliances in your kitchen, you can expect your dishwasher to typically start to wear out after seven to 10 years. Before then, you can prevent its seals, gaskets, and hoses from -rotting by running your dishwasher regularly. Avoid washing anything other than dishes in it and run an empty cleaning cycle once a month.
